A favorite recipe within our family is a dish called Tangy Spaghetti. It’s a spaghetti casserole with the typical meat sauce, but with added cheese and Italian spices, among other ingredients. The recipe is included at the end of this entry for you to experience, along with an analogy—an analogy I created to spiritually reflect on as you eat this favorite dish. Please enjoy:
He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ (Luke 10:27)
Tangy Spaghetti is like our relationship with the Lord.
First, like an oven’s heat, the Holy Spirit is all around and through us providing us the warmth to transform our souls for others.
Second, is the mind, which Jesus added to this classic Command as we are to use our noodle in discerning His truth.
Third, the layer of cheese gives strength to the whole dish to come together.
Fourth, the soul is the spice of life as we season our lives full of His grace.
Fifth, is the heart, represented by the red meat sauces. N t only are we to cover everything with love, but Jesus’ love covers everything with His red blood and meaty body that was shed for us.
Sixth, the casserole dish represents God the Father, who holds all things together.
Seventh, we love our neighbor by serving another such a delicious dish that was dead and now alive for our nourishment, together!
Thanks for humoring me in this creative expression of both faith and food. I pray you benefit from the analogy and the Tangy Spaghetti casserole. Below is the recipe if you wish to try it.
